HERO Peter Sutton saved a sheep from drowning in Corsham Lake last Wednesday afternoon (March 27).

He said he managed to pull the sheep out of the 13-acre lake in Corsham Court Park, although his initial attempt failed.

Mr Sutton said: “I tried to lasso it but it kept moving away from me. Eventually I grabbed her by the wool and got her out.”

Flocks of sheep graze the field adjoining the lake and Mr Sutton said the bank by the edge of the water is eroding badly. He felt it may need fencing off to prevent further problems for the livestock.

The lake is in the south east corner of the park, which is a popular place for family walks and dog walking, reached from St Bartholomew’s Church along a footpath to the meadows.

The lake was dug by Humphry Repton in 1778 when the park was landscaped.
