A TRANSPORT cafe and a butcher have teamed up to give truck drivers healthier bacon sandwiches and traditional fry-ups.

Martin Stiles butcher of Bromham supplies Chippenham Pit Stop with 2,000 rashers of bacon a week to keep the hauliers' wheels rolling with their full English breakfasts.

Now their traditionally dry cured bacon has no added nitrates or nitrites, which according to The World Health Organisation, are known to increase the risk of bowel and other cancers.

Pit Stop's Lisa Hatherell said: "Making the decision to switch to completely nitrate free bacon is just the latest move in our drive to source as many locally produced foods as we can and is our contribution to Bowel Cancer UK's Bowel Cancer Awareness Month."

Martyn, who is the fourth generation of family butchers said he was delighted to be part of the Pit Stop initiative and he would also be selling the nitrate free bacon in his shop.

The cafe is just off junction 17 of the M4.
