FRIDAY’S market in Malmesbury is alive and full of life despite the news that Barclays Bank in the town is to close in June.

That was the view of Julian Frank of Styan Farm Produce who have a weekly fruit and vegetable stall under the Market Cross at the top of the High Street.

“We will keep coming,” he said, “as we have a lot of regular customers. Closing the bank is bad news as you need change, but there’s still the Post Office and the Lloyds bank.”

Gordon MacPherson of the Town Team who promote the retail sector said: “Whilst we understand that loyal Barclays’ customers and businesses will be inconvenienced by the closure, it is also our understanding the Post Office will assist by taking deposits which will lessen the impact. We are sorry to see any business close on our High Street and will be pro-active in every way we can to ensure the site is taken up with another business”.
