WALKING rugby is a fantastic way to stay active and is aimed at men and women aged 45 and over who want to stay active and have fun without the risk of injury. Calne Rugby has been running sessions every Tuesday from 7pm and will continue to do so throughout the summer. The walking version of the sport is a lot more tiring that it sounds! You are constantly speed walking to move into space and it is quite competitive, but great fun!

The number people attending sessions has steadily grown and we now have a core 10-14 regular players. Calne Rugby Walkers secured match shirt sponsorship from E.Wootten Funeral Directors, based in Calne.

The team was founded by former chairman Chris Austin who said: "Walking rugby has really grown in popularity and is a way to stay active and meet new people. Men and women can play this non-contact variation of the sport regardless of fitness and ability. It improves hand/eye co-ordination and everyone loves it!

"We are delighted to have E.Wootten Funeral Directors as our match shirt sponsors and it was great to see Jeffrey Browning pulling on his trainers to join us! Our aim is to set up some matches with other local walking rugby teams and maybe set up a tournament in Calne. This could be the start of something big. I would urge anyone to come along and give walking rugby a go."
