CHIPPENHAM has had a higher than normal police presence today following a machete attack in the town last night.

An investigation has been launched after a man in Lower Field was assaulted and suffered a wound to his hand. He was taken to hospital and is being treated for damage to his tendons.

Police were called to an address in Lower Field, Chippenham, at around 10pm last night (20/03/19) following a report that a man had been attacked.

Two suspects were seen to flee the scene in a black Saab say police.

Insp Don Pocock, from Wiltshire North Community Policing Team, said: “People may see an increased police presence in this part of Chippenham throughout the day, and I don’t want this to cause any alarm.

“This is a routine response as we carry out our enquiries, and also increase routine patrols to provide reassurance to those living in the area.”

"We would ask anyone with information, including anyone who saw a car matching that description in the area around the time of the assault, to call Melksham CID on 101, quoting crime reference 54190027713.”
