BEGINNERS who went from couch potatoes to running machines in the space of ten weeks celebrated completing their first 5k run on Saturday.

The newbies of Devizes Running Club took part in Melksham Park Run to mark the end of their sofa to 5k course.

Club chairman Simon Gilbert said: "A total of 40 beginners completed the course.

“Its been a fantastic 10 weeks, everyone that attended the course all had different reasons to join. What they have achieved is truly inspirational and many will go on to complete our 5k to 10k course starting this week.

"Each week they turned up in sometimes in horrible weather conditions and worked hard to reach their 5k goal. Devizes Running Club came to together to deliver the course, many of which completing the course back in 2018.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of Devizes Running Club that helped, supported and encouraged the crew of 2019.”

One of those who took part on Saturday said: "It really elevated my confidence and this is something that I want to continue doing. I would recommend this course to anyone who’s always struggled with self-confidence running on their own. There’s always someone there to support you.”
