YOUNG athlete Amelia Slowey, aged nine, has begun a challenge to run one hundred miles in one hundred days to raise money for Dorothy House.

Amelia, from Pewsham in Chippenham, started her challenge on Friday - International Women's Day -in memory of her maternal grandmother, Gail Styles, who died of cancer in September 2016.

The Kings Lodge primary school pupil is running a mile a day with her mum Sarah after school.

"We run around Pewsham," Sarah said. "She's running one mile most days, but we are trying to bank some extra miles just in case anything crops up."

Last year Amelia raised £440 by climbing to the top of Mount Snowdon, aged eight. She is hoping to beat that total and has a target of £500 this year.

The active youngster, who has a little brother Ewan, aged seven, also enjoys Tai Kwondo, diving and Cubs.

The one hundred days ends on June 15.
