NEWLY revamped Oare village hall is set to throw open its doors next week when the committee that runs it holds an open day to show off its new kitchen and improved interior.

Chairman Victoria Le Sueur said: "We decided to put on the open day on Saturday, March 16th, not just to show people what the hall now has to offer, but also as a way of thanking everybody in the community for their support - we really wouldn't be here without their generosity.

"We hope that people will come along to view all the work we've done, but also to have a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a natter with neighbours and friends."

The community open day will run from 10am and 2pm on the day with free tea, coffee and cake with villagers able to view the modern kitchen that is complete with two ovens, fridge, hob and everything you'd expect in a kitchen.

There will also be a free prize draw with a half day hire worth £60 on offer.

The hall has been repainted and the roofing repaired while the drafty interior now had a lower ceiling with lighting to match. The old kitchen has become the store room meaning there is now plenty of space for parties, meetings, exercise classes and other social functions such as wedding receptions.

The hall is already used by the local play group, yoga and dance classes, and as a meeting place for the Oare Parish Council and as a polling station.

The White Hart pub in the village closed in 2014, leaving the hall built in the 1970s as the only community venue left. It's upgrade has been funded by a lottery grant and fund raising events and donations from villagers and organisation.

Events in the hall include the open day on March 16 but also an annual plant and produce sale, an Easter trail, a summer show and community food nights.

Last month there was a party for 60 people attracted by the refurbished kitchen.
