A NEW Aldi store is on the cards for Malmesbury, now Wiltshire Council has approved a planning application to build the discount supermarket at the edge of the town.
Both Aldi and Lidl had submitted applications to build new stores, off the A429 Malmesbury bypass, which were considered at the northern area planning committee yesterday.
Lidl's application to build a store on agricultural land on the other side of the bypass to the Waitrose store was rejected - but Aldi's scheme for a supermarket on the site of the Malmesbury Garden Centre was approved, with conditions.
The application also included outline permission for a new garden centre and other employment uses on the same site.
