A new lion painted with a scene of Wiltshire's glorious landscape, has taken up residence in the centre of Corsham.

Artist Jonathan Sanders was invited to paint the magnificent beast by Corsham Town Council - but the choice of design was entirely down to him. Jonathan is opening a gallery and studio in the town this weekend, called Sanders Painting and Sculpture, on Pickwick Road, which feature his work and that of his twin brother Michael,

The new lion is standing near Corsham Book Shop in the High Street.

It joins another decorated lion, Lionardo, who was painted by local artist Caroline Rudge and currently resides in the Martingate Centre.

A spokesman for the town council said: "It adds to Corsham’s growing reputation for public art, alongside Caroline’s lion. The town also boasts Rob Cowan’s murals on the Co-Op building, Phoebe Tonkin’s peacock in Newlands Road Car Park and the graffiti art at the Skate Park ."

Both lions, as well as the murals and the peacock design, were funded by Bill Hall, owner of the Martingate Centre and a passionate fan of public art.
