SPEEDING cars are causing a menace in Great Bedwyn leading to a call going out for more community speed watch volunteers.
Pete Hadden, 52, said: “Even an hour month will help. It’s a chance to get outside and do something for the community as everyone moans about drivers going too fast.”
Fellow speed watch volunteer Rob Braybrook, 68, said by carrying out occasional speed checks on vehicles it was a reminder to residents to slow down.
He said: “Great Bedwyn is a nicer place when people driver slower and much safer for pedestrians.”
The device used to monitor speed means the speed watcher can spot a vehicle up Forest Hill before they see the speed watchers he said.
If the driver is over the speed limit it generates a letter from the police although if they are going very fast the Constabulary will pay a visit to remind them to slow down.
The scheme is through Wiltshire Police. To join email communityspeedwatch@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk.
