ALDBOURNE will be the centre of the Liddiard world in April when the extended Wiltshire family gather for a grand meet up.

Australian resident Karen Rogers whose maiden name is Liddiard organised a family reunion in 2016 when 200 Liddiards turned up in Aldbourne, and she hopes this one will be even larger.

She said: “On the 12-14 April, we will be holding another Liddiard Gathering both at Aldbourne and the Swindon Steam Museum.

“We have Liddiard's and their descendants flying in from both Australia and the United States as well, of course, the UK.

“The programme includes displays of family trees, presentations on the Liddiard family as well as our DNA project and a tour around the beautiful village of Aldbourne.

“This one will be special for me, as it almost did not happen as I was diagnosed with cancer last year, all is well now and I leave Australia in three weeks so I am ready for the weekend.

“Details can be seen on our FaceBook page Liddiard Family Gathering.”

It all began when she started researching her family tree and found the Liddiards married into the Seymour family in the 17th century with parish records in Aldbourne showing the family’s roots stretch back nine centuries.

Pockets of Liddiards can be found in Ogbourne St Andrew and other villages near Marlborough as well as Somerset where a ‘y’ replaces the ‘i’ with the name meaning possibly the hill by the river in a mix of Celtic and old English.
