MUSICAL sound waves rippled through a village primary school when the sounds of percussion and young voices rang out enthusing parents, teachers and Governors.

Music Week at Kennet Valley Primary School in Lockeridge was held to promote music as something that connects all subjects from English to science and from the arts to numeracy.

Children took part in two workshops with guest teachers during the week; samba drumming and a Gospel singing workshop.

Parents were then treated to a showcase of the work that the children had done at the end of these inspiring days.

Some of the parent comments included, 'very uplifting – they bought a big smile to my face, and 'beautiful! So lovely to see the whole school involved,' while the school said that others felt the talents of the youngsters were being carefully nurtured to embrace music.

The idea of involving music seemed to go well with the children, even science was linked in with several sound investigations taking place.

Each class experimented with different instruments, including using the Garage Band music app on their iPads.

Mucic teacher Sarah-Jane Chalker said; "You could sense the creative buzz throughout the school. I was delighted by how well it went.

"It was a fantastic week and I could not stop smiling."

The Samba workshop she said was an 'epic success', and it was clear that all classes enjoyed the week.

Jo Sercombe held a gospel workshop and inspired the children to learn traditional songs as well as tunes from Disney.

The week ended with a silent disco for parents.
