YOUNGSTERS honed their IT skills, explored new technology and learnt about safety online in the first Safer Internet Festival, organised by the Corsham Institute.

The institute, based at Hartham Park, organised the ten free events from February 4 to 19 as part of its Children and Young People Programme.

Project manager Olivia Wolfheart said the festival was proving a great success: "It has been a massive success, according to surveys and feedback from kids, parents and teachers, and all the events have been well attended."

Events have included a Microbit workshop, a Doctor Who themed craft based session incorporating Microbits and Scratch, in which children created a sonic screwdriver. Sessions at Box Youth Club and Corsham Youth Zone explored social media safety.

A Scratch Game Making and VR demo, as well as a Python Chatbot Making session are planned for February 19. Visit corshaminstitute.org.
