BOYS and girls as young as three were ready for a kick about this week as Devizes Town Youth held free coaching sessions during the half-term break.

On Monday more than 60 children aged between three and six were at Nursteed Road for the first of three sessions the club is holding to get youngsters playing.

Club chairman Nathan Sheridan said on Monday: "It was really good this morning, we had a few first morning nerves and concerns about the weather but once everyone had arrived and signed in we had over 60 boys and girls between the ages of 3-6 years old.

"We divided them into age related groups and had four different exercises running at the same time for 15 minute periods.

"We had some fantastic feedback from parents attending including some who’s children were experiencing football training for the first time.

"Overall a great first day and we are all looking forward to Wednesday and Friday. We hope off the back of this half term initiative that we can continue do something similar once a week until the end of season. Then possibly some more initiatives in the summer holidays to use football to encourage exercise and social confidence in all age groups.

"We have a really good learning platform supplied by the FA. Alongside this we have an excellent team of coaches, club members and parents all willing to help and give something back to the Devizes community. We are really trying to grow our club and increase the number of teams we have registered."

Each of the children taking part were given a t-shirt and a football.

The club is now preparing for its festival of football to be held from May 17 to 19 for teams aged U6 to U16. To find out more about the club and to download a tournament entry form go to www.devizestownyouthfc.org.uk
