Wiltshire and Swindon charity Care Home Volunteers, beat off strong opposition to be crowned Volunteer Team of the Year at the second annual Caring UK Awards.

Care Home Volunteers recruits, trains and supports volunteers to befriend the most needy residents in care homes for older people.

Norman Edwards, chair of Care Home Volunteers, said:

“We are so proud of their dedication in bringing joy and friendship to older people in care."

The awards recognise excellence, innovation and achievement in all aspects of the industry. To come out on top, the organisation went through a rigorous assessment process, including a site visit.

Caring UK Awards event director Judith Halkerston said:

“All our winners have had an arduous journey to this point – the standard of entries was overwhelming and every facility that walked away with an award should be extremely proud.”

Volunteer coordinator Carrie Wierszycki said: "Volunteers need no special experience or skills, just enthusiasm, compassion and willingness to help older people. We provide preparation and support for all our volunteers so they feel confident before they start volunteering."
