ROAD users in the Chippenham and Calne areas may experience delays on Wednesday when an abnormal load is travelling through.
A low loader drawn by a tractor unit will leave Junction 17 of the M4. It will move from Chippenham Truck Stop at 1.30pm onto the A350 toward Chippenham, travelling around the Chippenham bypass, then A4 at Chequers roundabout towards Calne. The load will then travel through Calne on the A4 turning off toward Yatesbury.
Due to its width and length, the vehicle will be both slow moving and have the potential to cause congestion in places where oncoming traffic will be required to pull in and wait for the load to pass. Traffic travelling behind the vehicle will not be able to overtake.
Police say that wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across it.
Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey.
The police escort is being paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public.
