KEYS and a copy of the Bible have been handed to a new headteacher of a primary school near Marlborough.

In September last year Katie Turner took on the role at Chilton Foliat Primary School and last week there was a special commissioning service held at St Mary’s Church in the village.

Mrs Turner said: “I have been made to feel so welcome since starting in September, and the service was a special way to celebrate the importance of the church in my role.

“Distributing bibles to the children was a lovely way to all share in this together. The children sang ‘I am the Earth’ so beautifully too, it was all very touching.”

During the service the new head was ceremonially presented with the keys to the school.

The Commissioning Service, officiated by the Canon Simon Weeden, asked the pupils, staff, Governors, parents and the Church to work together to support Mrs Turner in her new role.

Thanks was also given to Mrs Tara Elliot for her long commitment to the school.
