THE Hardenhuish School Parliament hosted a Local Government Awareness Day, with councillors Peter Hutton, Ross Henning and Melody Thompson.
The event on Wednesday last week was organised by sixth form students Maya Skelton and William Martin, and supported by the sixth form leadership team. Students learnt about the councillors’ political careers and what they do, and heard plenty of advice on how to run a political campaign.
The young organisers said: "We wanted to highlight how a student's interest in politics could benefit them in the future, also expanding the school’s community engagement and emphasising how our local government is looking to work with young people in the future. We hope it has also benefitted the three Hardenhuish students running for the UK Youth Parliament North Wiltshire region this February.”
