HILMARTON resident Julia Gay, dismayed by the unsightly litter strewn alongside a two-mile stretch of the main A3102 between Lyneham and Calne, decided to tackle the problem with help from fellow villagers and Hilmarton Parish Council.
The council supplied tools and safety gear, eager volunteers turned up to lend a hand, and in just one morning 57 bags were filled with roadside rubbish.
Julia was delighted. She said: "Thanks to these wonderful people, who did a brilliant job, we cleared all sorts of rubbish, including tyres, window parts, parts from cars, and carpet! We are grateful also to Haines Construction and Calne Clean-Up Crew who supplied some items to help us. Thank you all."
