FANCY dress was the order of the day for some of the 600 runners who pounded the streets around Melksham and Lacock on Sunday for the ninth running of the Wiltshire 10, which is sponsored by the Gazette's sister paper the Wiltshire Times.

In somewhat chilly conditions the field set off from Lowbourne in Melksham and headed out to Lacock, where after looping around Reybridge and through the village they headed back towards Melksham and the finish alongside the River Avon in the King George V playing fields.

All finishers received a specially minted medal featuring the Wiltshire county flag and a goody bag which included a copy of the Wiltshire Times.

The men's race was won by Ricky Montacute of the Royal Engineers, who made his move in the final half mile to overhaul Anthony Glover of Westbury Harriers to take victory in 57 minutes, Robert Farley of Bitton Road Runners coming in for third place.

A quarter of competitors from Bristol-based Southville Running Club led by fourth placed Andrew Tarrant took the men's team prize.

The ladies race saw Jess Sanzo from Bristol take victory, completing the gently undulating course in 62 minutes 49 seconds, ahead of Erin Willmers from Salisbury and Victoria Ratcliffe of Somer AC. The Bitton Road Runners trio of Liz Sanigar, Lauren Price and Rachel Stowell took the ladies team prize.
