YOUNG and not so young are learning IT skills and exploring ways to stay safe on the internet during a series of special events organised by the Corsham Institute.
Their first ever Safer Internet Festival is made up of ten free events from February 4 to 19, which began on Monday at the library on the Springfield Campus, when sixth formers from the Corsham School gave some basic lessons on using email.
They advised on setting up an email account, sending attachments and creating an address book.
Future events will include basic skills in social media, as well as sessions with youth clubs in Box and at the Corsham Youth Zone on security, safety and privacy on the internet.
Youngsters aged seven to 11 can brush up on their technical skills on Saturday at Corsham Library, at a Doctor Who themed craft based session incorporating Microbits and Scratch, when they can make a Sonic Screwdriver or Pocketwatch.
On February 19, youngster can try out using Scratch, a beginner level tool, to create their very own computer game, during a session at Hartham Park.
