A FARM looking to diversify has got hitched to the wedding industry by opening a barn as a wedding venue and have ended up winning an award.

Casterley Barn, near Pewsey, has won the New Business category at the South West Wedding Awards in Plymouth last month.

Rachel Davies of the venue said: “We launched Casterley Barn in October 2017.

"It is part of the Rushall Organics estate, a family run organic farm in the Pewsey Vale.

"The family were looking at ways to diversify their business and had an old, derelict cattle shed on the site where Casterley Barn stands today."

The family replaced the shed with the eco-designed barn which runs off grid using solar power and a biomass boiler and the building has been designed with high eco standards.

Rachel said: "We want to deliver stunning events with impeccable attention to detail and service – whilst maintaining our commitment to sustainable practices."

Since the venue opened she said there has been a move away from the formal, traditional style of wedding towards much more relaxed affairs.

She said: "We like to think we are pretty flexible. We did have a bride delivered her wedding ring down the aisle by her dog which was a big surprise to her."
