CONTROVERSIAL plans to knock down garages and build two new houses on a local parking site have been withdrawn by Aster.
The proposal for Land at St Marys Close, Potterne was due to be voted on by the Eastern Area Planning Committee today, however the application has now been withdrawn.
The proposal to knock down 12 garages to build two semi detached houses was objected to by Potterne Parish Council and 35 villagers, who stated that parking in the area would cause traffic misery for residents.
The land is owned by Aster and seven of the garages are currently rented out privately.
Objecting, Richard Clark, of Potterne Parish Council said: “Access to the area by the emergency services and amenity vehicles is difficult enough already; if permission were granted then the inevitable increase in on-street parking would raise serious safety issues.The proposed development does not comply with the Potterne Neighbourhood Development Plan.”
Councillor Richard Gamble called the application in to be scrutinised by members of the committee.
