The Pound Arts Centre is looking forward to a bright new look, following an award of over £350,000 by Arts Council England.

The art centre in Pound Pill, Corsham, now has to raise another £50,000 to guarantee the funding and start work on the renovation project.

Already they have £30,000 pledged, from grants, fund raising events and individual donations - but the outstanding £50,000 is all to play for so the building can be upgraded and enhanced.

"Last time the building was renovated was ten years ago," said marketing officer Sarah Callan. "As well as a physical renovation, the arts centre needs a digital renovation with an updated and improved website."

The Pound 10 Renovation Fund will be used to install air conditioning in the auditorium, repair the listed parquet flooring throughout the building, a former school.

The funds will also refurbish and refresh the interior of the arts centre and update the technical equipment.

"We need a technical upgrade across the whole organisation. We are looking forward to the next ten years, and what we need to be doing to be a sustainable organisation, one that the Arts Council want to support, and that is here for the benefit of the community, " Sarah said.

She said they hoped the renovation would begin in August this year.

"Hopefully it will not impact on activities here too much, though there will be areas that can't be used for a time," she said.

"We are working with the community to develop the arts, with musicians and artists to do their research and development work in the building, and on our engagement with the community."

As well as live performances, film and exhibition, the Pound organises the Blue Sky Festival in June, the Magic and Mayhem Festival in November and coordinates Rural Arts Wiltshire.

The arts centre has 15 staff working full and part-time.

Business and individuals are invited to support the cause. Donations of £40 or more receive thanks the the brochure, £100 or more makes the donor a VIP guest at a celebration event when the renovations are complete, while £500 brings inclusion on a plaque in the building - and a generous £3000 will sponsor a room that will be named for you.
