Members of a bowls club have been bowled over by a donation of £400 from an accountancy firm towards the cost of a new artificial surface at Malmesbury Bowls and Social Club’s St John’s Street ground.

McGills Chartered Accountants, in Malmesbury, launched the McGills Community Activity Fund in summer 2018 by seeking applications from organisations in and around Malmesbury that promote community activities.

Partner Simon Nuttall present a cheque to the club’s chairman, John Smith, when he visited the club recently.

He said: “Malmesbury Bowls and Social Club carries out some great work in the local community by enabling people to stay active and bringing people of all ages together.

“The club’s work to replace the playing surface will mean that more people than ever will be able to play the game, including wheelchair users.

"It was wonderful to be able to visit the club and present the cheque.”
