REPTILE fans Danni Brownsell and Callum Plenty set up a sanctuary for distressed reptiles just three weeks ago - and already have a houseful of animals to care for.

The largest resident of Plenty's Reptile Rescue, in Calne, is a nine-foot long reticulated python, who had been living in a vivarium that was far too small for a snake of his size.

Danni, who has seven snakes of her own, said that already they were tending for a whole host of rescued reptiles, including two boa constrictors, two leopard geckos, a crested gecko and two corn snakes - with a bearded dragon and two musk turtles on the way.

"All the rescues have different stories - some come from people who have had babies and don't have time to look after them, some have been mistreated and dropped off at other rescue places," Danni said.

"The python will stay with us for a week, but we have found someone to adopt him permanently."

Danni, who also has two dogs, said it was costly feeding and caring for all their rescued reptiles but the couple have received donations of money and equipment to help them in their task.
