VULNERABLE homeowners have been warned to be mindful of security after two men went to the home of an elderly man in Calne's Wenhill Heights, examined the roof and offered to replace roofing tiles for £400.

The men called at 11.07am on January 21, and the homeowner advised the men he did not want or need any work completed.

The men, who were seen approaching other houses offering work, quickly left the location upon hearing that the neighbours had raised their concerns to the police. No work was completed nor money paid.

The vehicle registration given was for a white ford transit van.

PCSO Mark Cook of the Calne Community Police Teams said: "We are urging anyone with elderly parents or relatives to be mindful of their home security and anyone approaching their properties offering to do work for them, or paying them unwanted attention.

"We are currently working with the resident involved to ensure their security measures are improved and other residents in the area are now aware of this incident, and will be keeping a watchful eye in the future."

He added: "We are also asking members of the community to report anyone they see behaving in a suspicious nature on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress."
