CAVALIERS and Roundheads are set to do battle again on Marlborough Common this summer after the town council authorised £11,000 to stage a Civil War re-enactment.

The event over the weekend of July 27-28 will feature a living history encampment in Priory Gardens and a full scale pitched battle on the Common by the English Civil War Society.

At the town council meeting on Monday it was agreed the event should go ahead with the council underwriting the weekend.

The last Civil War event brought thousands of visitors, boosted trade and was very successful said the mayor.
