DETECTIVES are still on the trail of a woman who attempted to rob a store assistant at knife point.

Police officers issued an appeal on Monday for the alleged thief. The woman, whose face was masked by her scarf, went into the Premier store on Whitworth Road in the early hours of Tuesday, January 8.

The cool-headed shop assistant refused to hand over cash from the till, despite the hooded woman pulling a knife on him. She fled from the Pinehurst shop after failing to scare the worker into giving her the money.

PC Jonathan Kilburn said: “This was a terrifying incident and the victim was understandably shaken up. I’d like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and we have been carrying out extensive enquiries since it happened to identify the person responsible."

The woman was described as 5ft tall and wearing a black jacket with a brown fur trim around the hood.

Wiltshire Police said enquiries were ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to call 101.
