Rotary clubs in Wiltshire have provided a new mobile classroom for Life Education Centre (Wiltshire) after raising £42,000.

Eleven clubs from across the county raised £12,000 and applied successfully for a grant of £30,000 from the worldwide Rotary Foundation to buy the new unit.

Life Education Centre, based in Malmesbury, provides children aged four to eleven years with the knowledge and skills they need to make right decisions. The programme’s educational scope includes health, relationships and well-being.

A series of sessions linked to the National Curriculum uses a specially designed, high-tech mobile classroom and highly trained educators. The mobile classroom and its specialist teachers ensure an exciting educational experience for the children, to tackle difficult topics in a sensitive, protective environment.

Volunteers from the Rotary Clubs of Royal Wootton Bassett & District, Bradford-on-Avon and Salisbury have been responsible for managing Wiltshire Life Education ‘s Keeping Children Safe programme, and for transporting and installing the classroom in Wiltshire primary schools.

In the current academic year, LEC (Wiltshire) will help nearly 12,000 children in around 80 Wiltshire schools.

Phil Tanner, president of Royal Wootton Bassett & District Rotary Club, said: "I would like to thank those who donated to this appeal and especially Richard Everitt who masterminded the successful application for the Rotary Foundation Global Grant to enable purchase of the new classroom. This gift will benefit children across Wiltshire for many years to come.”
