CHANGES to approved plans for a 69-bed Travelodge and cafe off Foundry Lane have been criticised by Chippenham Town Council's planning, environment and transport committee.
The applicants want to increase the height of the building by 0.9 metres and to surface the hotel car park with tarmac. At a meeting last week, planning officer Andy Conroy branded the changes as a "dumb down of the design quality."
Coun Nick Murry said: "It seems like cost cutting. The height change is not massive but there's no explanation as to why."
The committee agreed to object to the amendments.
