AREA board chairman Simon Jacobs has officially opened a show complex at a retirement home aimed at people aged over 70.

He was at Shackleton Place at Bath Road, Devizes which has been created on the site of the old Browfort council offices that were home to Kennet District Council.

The site was sold by Wiltshire Council to McCarthy and Stone. Coun Jacobs said: "“It was a pleasure to visit Shackleton Place and mark the opening of the show complex there. "Shackleton Place will be a welcome asset to Devizes, providing an excellent solution for retirees who are looking to enjoy an independent retirement, but with a little extra support.”

Sales executive Alison Peacock said: “Shackleton Place is already proving popular with retirees in Devizes, ahead of its much anticipated opening.”

The building includes one and two bedroom apartments, a lounge, on-site bistro and a guest suite for visitors who want to stay overnight.

Neighbouring Shackleton Bungalows have been designed for the over 60s and will feature their own patio and garden area and two parking spaces.
