AFTER losing four stone in weight, a Malmesbury woman is celebrating the reversal of her Type 2 diabetes and that she no longer needs an operation on her liver.

Sandra Kane, 30, joined WW (formerly known as Weight Watchers) after receiving the diabetes diagnosis two years ago, just before Christmas.

“I’d piled on the pounds after losing my Dad to cancer and having two kids but I never thought I’d end up with a disease for life," she said. “I walked into a WW workshop in Malmesbury and got on the scales. It was a bit of a shock but I quickly got my head around the plan and lost loads in the first week.

"Instead of a big bowl of cereal, I swapped to a cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon medallions, mushrooms and tomatoes which kept me feeling fuller for longer. Lunch was a tuna salad rather than sandwiches, crisps and chocolate and dinner was a fakeaway instead of a takeaway."

She learnt about portion sizes and changed her mindset on eating.

"I ate healthy foods and learned to face my demons head on rather than carry on eating emotionally," Sandra explained. "I lost four stone by sticking with the plan.

"As well as the diabetes, I’d been told I needed an operation to have part of my liver removed. Because I lost the weight, I no longer required the operation, no longer needed the diabetes drugs and no longer needed the prescriptions."

She added: "If I’d continued as I was, I’d have cost the NHS thousands of pounds over the years as I am so young.

“I have a five year old girl and a four year old boy and want to bring them up healthy and set a good example. I still have a way to go with my weight loss but I know I will make it with the support of the programme.”

Now Sandra has become a coach to help others, with workshops in Royal Wootton Bassett and Malmesbury. To find out more, visit weightwatchers.com/uk.
