VANDALS have cancelled the rest of Christmas by damaging the festive lights in Devizes.

In a statement today (Friday, December 28) the town council of the Wiltshire town said: "We have taken the difficult decision to switch the Market Place Christmas tree lights off today as, very disappointingly, they have been vandalised beyond repair.

"Here's a little picture of the tree on the Lantern Parade and Lights Switch On event to remind ourselves of how stunning it looked when lit."

In the message the tree is seen on its own in the darkness with fireworks exploding above to mark the lights switch on event on November 30.

The event attracted more than 3,500people complete with a lantern procession and a winter market outside and makers fair in the Corn Exchange.
