The Little Match Girl, a warming tale for winter performed by local theatre company The Last Baguette, is coming to St Mary’s Hall on Malmesbury on Sunday January 6.

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's traditional tale, the family show by the Malmesbury-based company uses visual storytelling, live music and puppetry.

The script is written by TA Woodsmith, winner of the Sunday Times Playwriting Award, and the play follows Alice, a match seller in Victorian London, as she encounters the funny and zany characters of the vibrant city streets.

In an attempt to stay warm she strikes a match, then a second and third. In the cold the flames blaze to life and the flickering fire illuminates her fantastic Christmas visions, meeting talking turkeys, dancing rats, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their chattering Christmas tree.

The play starts at 2.30pm. Tickets are £6-8. To book, visit poundarts.co.uk.
