YEAR seven pupils at Hardenhuish School have been honing their skills in competitive slam poetry in workshops with Sara-Jane Arbury, a veteran of the national performance poetry circuit.
After a series of mini-competitions in tutor groups in the school’s library, the winners went through to the prestigious ninth Poetry Slam Final in Peter Thompson Hall last Thursday, performing to a packed audience of friends, family, staff and governors.
Curriculum Leader for English Dan Skirrow said “What an enjoyable evening! Our Year 7s did the school proud with their confident performances and poems that ran the gamut from genuinely moving to actually hilarious. It was a real treat to witness our students so engaged with poetry and performance, and we’d like to thank all the parents who came for supporting this event.”
