CHILDREN and staff at a Bradford on Avon nursery school have hailed an Invictus Games hero at a special party in her honour.

They presented flowers and gifts to former Army veteran Kelly Ganfield, whose three-year-old daughter Bethany goes to the Catkins Nursery School in Trowbridge Road.

Mrs Ganfield, 38, from Bridge Avenue, Trowbridge, won a silver medal for the UK squad in the 4x100-metre relay at the Invictus Games this summer.

She is registered blind after suffering a stroke while serving in the army and was one of 500 former veterans who competed in the Games in Australia.

Gail Keverne, founder of the Catkins Nursery School, said Kelly was an “inspiration” to the pupils and others.

Mrs Ganfield said: “It’s always an honour to tell children about the importance of sport and keeping fit.

“Hopefully, they will become the next generation of athletes.”
