TWO famous Calne pigs play a starring role in a new book by local author Dee la Vardera.

Called Bringing Home the Bacon, the tale tells the true story of the theft of the bronze pigs from the town centre last year.

‘I’m glad I got my latest book out in time for Christmas as it makes a jolly little stocking filler,’ said Dee.

The book is illustrated by Richard Cowdy, sculptor of the Two Pigs, and the book is selling well.

Marc Allum, BBC Antiques Roadshow specialist said: "The theft seemed to reunite everyone - there was the initial disbelief and then the elation of getting the pigs back. We have the Cowdy bronze calf in Chippenham and we would have felt the same shock if it had happened here."

David Hitchens of The New Wine Shop said: "I’ve just had a big order for the book to accompany sales of the new Calne Pig Beers called Trotter, Boar and Hog, brewed at Rowde brewery Devitera."

Dee’s book costs £5 and is available at local shops and museums.Visit dewfall-hawk.com for more information.
