POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a road traffic collision near Avebury on Friday evening.

The two-vehicle fatal collision happened on the A4361, approximately one mile north of Avebury at Winterbourne Bassett, at around 6.30pm Friday November 30.

A white Ford Focus collided with a grey Land Rover Freelander, causing both vehicles to leave the road.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a local man in his 50s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for a number of hours to allow enquiries to take place and reopened at around 2.30am on Saturday.

Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit are now investigating the crash and have urged any witnesses who have not yet made contact with the police to ring 101.
