CORSHAM Churches Foodbank received a donation of £5389.89 from the local Co-op's Community Causes on Saturday.
The money will be used to help provide a special Christmas food parcel for around 50 to 55 needy families in the Corsham area in the festive season.
Foodbank chairman Steve Drew: "It means we can give people more help."
He explained: "We will use it to buy food, in particular food for Christmas. We shall have a special distribution just before the school holidays, to help families who are in need at this time."
The food bank, based in St Alldhelm's church in Pickwick Road, opened in 2011. Mr Drew said demand for help had increased, particularly for those struggling with the introduction of the new system of Universal Credit.
If you wish to help the foodbank, donations can be made at collecting points in Sainsbury's Chippenham and the Corsham Co-op. They can also be delivered in person at St Aldhelm’s Church from 10am-11.30am on Tuesdays or 10am-12noon Saturdays. Corsham Co-op also handed £5059 to the Corsham Ranger Guides for the Queen's Guide Award and £5102 to the Neston Preschool Playgroup.
