A NEW micropub - the first in Chippenham - has opened on Station Hill.

The Prince of Wales is a venture by Tom Kyte, 37, who has lived in the town for five years.

"I worked in IT and got fed up with the corporate world," he said. "I had enjoyed visiting the micropubs that were springing up around the country, it was a concept I really liked."

His pub, in a former shop premises, opened last month and is already proving popular with its focus on real ale.

Mr Kyte undertook a sympathetic makeover, retaining for building's period features, like the old fireplace and frontage, while refurbishing the interior and adding new toilets.

"It has been fantastic," he said. "The feedback and comments from people have been very positive."

The beers on sale are always changing, with an emphasis on local breweries in and around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, as well as English Vodka from the Ramsbury Estates, Cotswold Brewing Company lager and white wine from Devizes.
