A woman was taken to hospital with injuries to her head, spine and hand after her car flipped over when she avoided another vehicle, which subsequently failed to stop.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident, which happened at 3.55pm on Monday November 26.

The woman, aged in her forties, was driving a silver Vauxhall Zafira between Colerne and Ford when a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road, caused the driver of the Zafira to take evasive action, causing the vehicle to slide on mud and subsequently flip.

She was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

PC Chloe Jenkins said the driver was travelling with her two young children at the time.

"The children are not believed to have been injured but would have been understandably shocked and upset.

"The driver of the second vehicle did not stop and made off from the scene towards Colerne.

"I don't think it is possible that the driver of the second vehicle would have been unaware of the result of their actions."

The offending vehicle is described as a white van or small motorhome/caravan.

"Lots of people were using the road and picking children up from school at the time of the incident so they may have witnessed something," said PC Jenkins.
