Jingle Spells is the title of the Warminster Philharmonic Orchestra’s Christmas concert this year, being held on Saturday, December 15 at 7.30pm at Warminster School, in the new purpose built Thomas Arnold Hall on Church Street.

Overtures to get the evening underway include Verdi’s The Sicilian Vespers, Strauss’s Gypsy Baron and the very well-known Romeo and Juliet overture by Tchaikovsky. The second half will open with fun and toe-tapping highlights from the hit musical Wicked. The orchestra will be welcoming Luke Willmore’s Love2Sing choir to perform City of Star’s from La La Land before they support the audience participation carols with descants and harmonies.

Amanda Williams, founder and conductor of the orchestra, said: “As per our long-standing tradition, we shall be inviting the audience to join us for a good old singalong carol fest. We look forward to raising the roof of the Thomas Arnold Hall as we get into the festive spirit. With stunning acoustics and a cosy atmosphere we shall be fully equipped for a memorable evening of community music making.

“I believe that classical music should be fun and accessible to everybody. Firstly, we especially wish to reach out to non-classical concertgoers and young people. Classical music can seem daunting and too serious for some. As Warminster’s community orchestra for local people, we aim to make music approachable and enjoyable to all.

"As an orchestra we continually welcome musicians of all ages and skill to come and have a go in an informal, social atmosphere. The fact that many of the musicians shall be sporting reindeer antlers and flashing earrings should prove we don’t take ourselves too seriously – we’re even inviting the audience to come in seasonal dress.”

The orchestra is keen to support people who can’t easily leave home, offering a free ticket to anyone who is accompanying a client as a carer, including staff from nursing homes. To arrange, please call Amanda Williams 01985 216376.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 01985 216376 and leaving a message or email wiltshiremusicmaking@hotmail.com and are £8 in advance, £10 on the door.
