A marine conservationist, a packaging technologist at Marks and Spencer, and the boss of a local company at the forefront of plastic recycling innovation will all speak at the Plastic Unwrapped Festival in Malmesbury on Saturday.
The free, one-day festival at Malmesbury Town Hall is organised by Malmesbury Against Plastic (MAP) as part of their work to be recognised as a plastic-free community by the charity Surfers Against Sewage.
Talks will begin at 10am, after the Mayor Coun Fran Vandelli opens the festival at 9.45am.
A MAP spokesman said: “We are thrilled to have such a diverse range of speakers for our visitors, all of which are at the front line of tackling one of the most pressing issues of our time – plastic waste."
The Malting Room will host a variety of film screenings, including the recent BBC documentary Secret Life of Landfill, a TED Talk by local anti-plastics campaigner Natalee Fee, and ground-breaking films from Sky Ocean Rescue.
An art exhibition will be held in the children’s activity area, displaying the hundred-plus pictures and sculptures submitted to MAP as entries to their art competition, and look out for a market in the Wesleyan Room offering products to help people live with less plastic, and a photobooth installation, tombola and silent auction.
