YOUNG singer Elan Fryar will go on to sing at a Royal Academy of Music concert in January after winning the Sir Bryn Terfel Song Prize at St Mary's School fourth annual prize concert.

Penelope Price Jones was this year’s adjudicator and Elan impressed with her programme of Handel, Thiman and Coates. The six finalists were accompanied on the piano by Chris Totney and after the performances, the adjudicator offered constructive criticism and tips for future performances.

St Mary’s Calne presented the inaugural Bryn Terfel Song Prize in 2015 and past winners have performed to a capacity audience at Bath Abbey. This year’s winner will sing at the Royal Academy of Music Cantabile Concert Inspire! on January 20.

"It was a glorious evening of beautiful songs, enjoyed by the school and members of the wider community," said Stephanie Bryan, speaking for the school.

"Elan received a signed photo of Sir Bryn and a signed CD of his most recent recording of duets with artists including Emma Thompson and Alfie Boe."
