PICK up some locally-themed Christmas gifts and support Chippenham Museum when it opens for Museum Shop Sunday.

Chippenham Museum is not normally open on a Sunday, but this week, as part of the national Museum Shop Sunday event, it will be opening its doors between 11am and 2pm and offering 20 per cent off its range of over 50 local history and children's books, and its festive range of Snowy Chippenham tea towels and coaster set.

Chippenham Museum’s shop, which opened in May this year, has lots of goods with a local twist - either inspired by Chippenham or made locally, including children’s toys, food, jewellery and decorations. The museum supports a number of Chippenham-based artists and makers, including silver and copper jewellery maker Barking Hen Jewellery, glass artist Mary Quarmby and Rosie’s Relish & Pickle.

Museum assistant Claire Selman said: “We’re delighted to be opening for Museum Shop Sunday for the first time. We have a wonderful selection of books and items sourced from local makers and artists which complement the stories told within our museum.”

The two floors of galleries will also be open, including the temporary exhibition Remembrance which explores the impact of WW1 on Chippenham and features the commemorative tapestry alongside community artwork and items from the museum’s collection.

The museum is free to visit and tells the story of the people and history of Chippenham and surrounding villages from prehistoric times up until the present day, with a number of family activities to enjoy.
