A FLASHMOB turned back the clock one hundred years on Tuesday night, when servicemen, nurses, youngsters from Rag and Bone Arts and members of the public dressed in the style of 1918 and processed through Chippenham High Street, bearing lanterns and banners, to celebrate the end of the war.

Organised by Chippenham Museum and supported by Chippenham Town Council, the march was researched by museum volunteer Ray Alder. The celebration took place on November 13 1918, two days after the Armistice. Mr Alder put together the speech made by Captain Mills (played by Ian Furey-King) outside the Town Hall, based on historic reports. The captain was in charge of the Army Service Corps in Chippenham.

Calne Band played beneath the Buttercross in the Market Place, and the 10th Chippenham Scouts (Air Group) played the Last Post and National Anthem.

Following the speech, the leader of the town council Sandie Webb thanked everyone for taking part, and invited them into the town hall for refreshments.
