YOUNGSTERS from uniformed groups in Pewsey played a big part in the village's Remembrance Sunday tribute to commemorate the end of the First World War.

The children were part of a crowd of around 300 that gathered at the War Memorial at St John the Baptist Church on Sunday morning as people of all ages laid wreaths to remember the fallen.

A total of 33 men from Pewsey died during World War One and as the country commemorated 100 years since the end of the conflict they were at the forefront of the thoughts of those who gathered.

The Rev Jennifer Totney led the service to remember not just them but all the servicemen and women who have lost their lives in conflicts across the world.

Representatives from the fire and police service joined in the wreath laying along with the children from scout and guide movements.

Wiltshire councillor Jerry Kunkler said: "There was a very good turn out and it was lovely to see so many children taking part. All the seats in the church were full with standing room only.

"The village has been involved in a number of activities to mark the centenary including an exhibition in the heritage centre. Schools have been learning about World War One."
