POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a distinctive penguin necklace and other jewellery was stolen from a house in Bromham, near Devizes on Friday.

The burglars struck between 10am and 12.30pm and smashed patio doors to get into the house at Westbrook Green.

Searches were carried out in the bedrooms and numerous items of jewellery were stolen including the necklace, a platinum engagement ring with a asingle diamond, a five garnet gold ring, a blue sapphire gold ring and a gold ring with five or six amethysts.

Police are carrying out house to house inquiries and making checks with jewellery shops as well as looking at CCTV and making a forensic analysis.

A spokesman said: "We would urge anyone who was in the area who may have seen or heard anyone acting suspiciously to call police on 101 and quote crime reference number 54180103953."
